Like a lot lower. A few weeks ago I was talking about buying a very unfortunate Buick Grand National, but I just can’t tie up that money right now. I thought briefly about not buying any car, but I don’t like that idea at all. I do, however, need to spend less money on a project. Like way less. Like 15/16ths less.

So I found this.

Kinja'd!!!

If you’re on Oppo, you know what it is. It’s an ‘89, it’s gone about 140k miles, it’s a turbo/5 speed, and it has no spark. And it’s asking $450. I’m thinking more like $250, which is a price that, if I needed to scrap it, I’d be out maybe $50.

Honestly, I just want something to put in the garage and buy the occasional part for. Get some fender flares and steelies like I was going to do for the Barelycuda, turn the boost way up, grenade the motor...you know, fun stuff.

I'll check it out this weekend if I've got time. If it's cheap enough I'll buy it.

I had one of these!

Run. Run far. You WILL lose money, it WILL be more than $50, and you WILL regret it.

I also had one, an ‘89 turbo in mint green. LOVED that car, it was my first foreign car and compared to my ‘88 IROC (which was a very nice one) it was the nicest car in the world. Luckily I've gotten good at abandoning projects before they cost me too much.

Yeah the problem with these is parts availability. It's shrinking like crazy.

True that. Luckily in my case there's a dude three miles from my house that's exclusively a Saab tech, and he's basically got his own private salvage yard on site...50-75 Saabs sitting out behind his building.

Love these - but if you’re looking to have a nice driver, maybe it’d be better to buy a clean non-turbo and swap a later saab turbo motor in? I had a great conversation with a crazy saab guy at the liquor store this one time - he had done the same thing, even let me look under the hood. There’s a lot of space to work in there and he said it was a fairly straightforward swap.

One of my thoughts was the engine from a 9000 Aero...2.3 liter, 250hp, a shit ton of lag. I don't need or want the car to be particularly clean though, I want it to be a bit of a rat. I figure I can drive this one until the engine blows up and then swap in something else.

Period-correct Borbet wheels should be worth $200 by themselves...
